Mystics of the Dead Sea

This area is a unique Geographical phenomenon, a salty lake in the middle of the
“African-Syrian Breakage” and it is the lowest point on earth – 390 meters below the sea level at 418 meters (1,371 ft) below sea level and falling, and the deepest hyper saline lake in the world at 330 m (1,083 ft) deep and 799 m (2,621 ft) below sea level. The superior quality of the water from the Dead Sea, results from an extremely high contents of salt. It is one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth with a salinity of about 30%. This is about 8.6 times greater than the average ocean salinity. It measures 67 kilometers (42 mi) long, up to 18 kilometers (11 mi) wide, and is located on the border between Israel and Jordan.
The Dead Sea has attracted interest and visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. It was a place of refuge for King David, it was one of the world's first health resorts for Herod the Great, and it has been the supplier of products as diverse as balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.
In Hebrew the Dead Sea is called the Yam ha-Melakh - meaning "sea of salt", or Yam ha-Mavet - meaning "sea of death".
The Dead Sea area has become a major center for health, research and treatment for several reasons. The mineral content of the waters, the very low content of pollens and other allergens in the atmosphere, the reduced ultraviolet component of solar radiation, and the higher atmospheric pressure at this great depth each have specific health effects.
Because of very high temperatures and intense solar radiation, an extremely high rate of evaporation is measured, which creates a unique kind of haze.
The air - As atmospheric pressure is elevated, it results in a concentration of oxygen that is higher than at sea level. The heat favors the constant evaporation of the sea water and enriches the air with magnesium and bromine. This also contributes to the relaxing effects of a therapeutic stay there and diminishes stress. The air is dry; the rainy season is very short. Thus, the air contains no allergens or pollution. These conditions are ideal for patients suffering from asthma or chronic obstructive broncho-pathologies.
Other phenomenon is the mud. The flood in the Canyon of the Yehuda Desert brings with the desert soil an organic substance that under the heat is produced mud rich in minerals.
